Karioi Restoration in Raglan are carrying out ecological monitoring and pest control on Karioi, the dominant volcano, also known as the sleeping lady. The project is a colloborative effort between Te Whakaoranga o Karioi Inc Society and A Rocha Aotearoa NZ, together with Whaingaroa hapu, the Department of Conservation, and other interested community groups and individuals.
People can be involved in pest trapping, educational activities and monitoring. Currently we have a University of Waikato student helping out with monitoring as part of a small third year research project. There are opportunities for individuals to participate in all aspects of the work depending on their interests and skills.
