Provide educational opportunities for residents of Hamilton and the greater Waikato
Foster, promote and encourage greater community involvement and participation in community environmental projects through heightened profile of local projects and achievements.
Provide an umbrella group for the environmental movement in Hamilton and the Waikato and a vehicle for effective communication on environmental matters.
Provide facilities and resources to members and to the public.
Raise funds for the purposes of carrying out all or any of the objectives of the Trust.
How we started
The Hamilton Community Environmental Programme (CEP) was first established by Hamilton City Council back in 1993. The idea was based on the growing community interest in maintaining and enhancing our local environment and on recognition of the diverse skills, creativity and energy that the community possesses to make things happen.
From small beginnings the CEP has flourished into a forum represented by the plethora of environmental groups and organisations which now exist in Hamilton.
This programme has developed in recent years and is now co-ordinated by the Waikato Environment Centre Trust. Operating from the Waikato Environment Centre at 25 Ward St, the main purpose of the Trust is to act as a network through which the profile of these groups and organisations can be raised, where community involvement and support can be encouraged, and where crucial links can be established and maintained.
