Community Group Support Project

Voluntary environmental groups in the Waikato region are being supported through a partnership between Trust Waikato and the Hamilton Environment Centre (ECH).

The first stage of this project was a community group survey to ascertain environmental initiatives, including barriers faced by groups, support and assistance required, and to identify new groups involved in environmental projects. The project has now progressed to support groups involved in a broad range of environmental projects. We especially want to assist groups that are engaged in all aspects of sustainability, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation and use, sustainable building, conservation and productive gardening.

Hamilton Environment Centre offers environmental groups:

  • Promotion of events through fortnightly newsletters & community radio
  • Free links to our website
  • Competitive options for website development
  • Networking and support for environmental groups
  • Workshops & training
  • Funding advice
  • Free database management tool for your member lists
  • Help to formalize your group's structure
  • Free interactive web map showing groups work and location in the Waikato.

We help groups publicize news and activities, via our fortnightly online newsletters, which are emailed out to 250+ readers. We also run workshops on a range of topics, such as: money management, presentation skills, getting funding and writing for the media. We also run Environmental Expos around the region to provide groups with tools and info to help them run better.

If we are unable to assist with your needs we will endeavour to put you into contact with other organisations which can. If you would like to know more about what we offer, keep up to date with environmental news, or require support please contact:
